Although this may somewhat reflect who I am, There is so much more than I can express on a web site. It is my desire to be centered and fully present all the time; to look into your eyes and see that spark of God within you. Always much easier to say than to do. My reach always seems to exceed my grasp.
I am a successful business owner and Optician. I am interested in many different subjects and have many hobbies. I love passion, romance, and intelligent conversation (with a good wine thrown in for fun).

What is the Story of Stuff?
From its extraction through sale, use and disposal, all the stuff in our lives affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view. The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It'll teach you something, it'll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever.

The Sodium Chloride (NaCl) crystal, salt, starts off as a cube in it's molecular form. The analog model (using the "high-tech" toothpicks and styrofoam) shows the pattern below.

... and then the fully formed crystal:

Crystals are very interesting in their growth and the development of their shape and pattern. You can always tell what the molecular shape of a crystal is by it's visible shape. In other words, the shape of the basic molecule determines the shape of the crystal itself. An excellent example is the Diamond. Carbon atoms are arranged in an eight-sided cube-like shape (two pyramids, base to base).

Here you can see the developing diamond's trigonal shape in miniature.

Here's a better view of the trigon shapes within the surface of a mature diamond.

So as you can see, the final shape of a crystal directly reflects the pattern the atoms are arranged in to form the basic molecule.

The Sky is at Risk
by Daniel Amyx
© 1994
The Stars all pale when dusk arrives
for they cannot outshine your smile.
Their flicker fades as your piercing gaze
cuts through the night.
They mourn in your beauty
for it is that which they cannot have
and that which they lust for.
The Moon tries hard to hide you in shadow
to protect his midnight sky.
Yet his cult of moths find your light
and follow in your path.
"I cannot succeed, she is brighter than I", she cries.
And in surrender she sinks into the twilight morn.
Star-dust and Moon-mist dance
to create the dawn,
and in their 'pas de deux'
the colorful tapestry of morning
is pulled from his eyes;
the King, of the sky,
begins to awake.
The Sun with his jealous eye,
sees you in your light and splendor.
But he can do naught
to quench your burning ember.
He cannot touch you
for his is a material fire.
Full of heat and flame.
But yours, yours is the Spirit-Fire,
who's fuel is love
and who's light burns without heat
and burns
for an eternity.
"The sky is at risk"
say the Moon, Stars and Sun.
And in their fear
conspire against you.
"The sky is not at risk.", sing the Angels,
"She is only one."
So they steal you away,
in fear for their precious treasure of light,
and hide you in human form.
"There she will sleep,
there she will rest
and the Moon Stars and Sun will not find her",
the Angels said.
"One day the "other" Light will come
and they will find each other
and in love, their light shall brighten.
Then we can truly say:
The sky is at risk."

Chariot
Daniel Amyx (11-1-77)
Let me take you on my chariot,
that rides the steel rail.
To God's own earthly paradise,
away from cities' hell.
A place with fields of golden grass,
so vast they never cease.
with flowering colours blooming bright,
that grow in nature's leas.
Let me take you on my chariot,
that rides the steel rail.
To visions of wisteria,
beyond torment's earthly veil.
A space so full of loving life,
it puts the heart at ease.
With stars that fill the crystal skies,
and bring you quiet peace.

Between Each Breath
c by Daniel Amyx
With each breath I take,
there is a moment when I cease to breathe,
when time stands silent
and the clock rests in its cadence.
Between each breath,
there I die
and there I am born again.
In that moment,
that few men take notice,
choices are made:
to breathe again or to cease.
You are the pivot of my decision,
my choice to breathe again.
To fill my being with the sweet
smell of your presence.
To lighten my days with the helium
of your laughter.
It is with you
that I breathe again
It is from you that
I take my new life.
With each breath I take,
there is a moment when I cease to breathe,
when time stands silent
and the clock rests.
